AI chatbots like ChatGPT, Claude and Google Gemini are quickly changing how patients access health information, understand symptoms and make decisions about their care. In a survey of more than 5,000 patients, Phreesia Network Solutions found that 1 in 5 now use AI chatbots for health information, and that number is growing fast.
This report shares findings from a two-wave national survey exploring:
- How patients use AI chatbots to manage their health
- How much they trust AI health recommendations
- Whether they discuss what AI tells them with their doctors
The results reveal that while patients find AI-generated health information easy to understand, nearly half do not verify it with a provider, and trust in chatbot accuracy remains low. As this technology becomes a bigger part of how patients learn about symptoms, treatments, mental health and more, the implications for life sciences organizations, healthcare marketers and patient–provider relationships are significant.
